What is a marketing funnel? And Why Should You Build One?

A Marketing Funnel is the foundation of your business. It allows you to multiply your income by marketing your products with the same amount of energy and time invested.

Imagine a funnel with the wide end at the top and the narrow end at the bottom. And your goal as an entrepreneur and marketer is to drive as many people through the funnel from one end to the other.

Your funnel structure can vary, but you’ll make the most money, by investing the same amount of energy to drive the traffic, if you have multiple products set up in your funnel.

Here is an example of what a successful marketer’s funnel might look like. It’s very likely you’ve been through one of these or you’ll be through one eventually. (when you go through a funnel next time, go ahead and study it… Don’t fall entirely into the marketing trap… Be conscious that you are being marketed to, admire the process and learn from it, so that you can duplicate it.)

So a marketing funnel might look like this. In fact, let’s imagine for a second that this is your successful marketing funnel.

1) First you offer a free item such as an Ebook, Report, video training series…

2) Once your prospects have exchanged their information (email) i.e. opted in, you can now sell them your low and mid-priced product or service.

3) Moving on, now that they have handed you their credit card and paid for your product, you can continue the what’s called a “1 Click Upsell” process, by offering other products or OTO’s (One Time Offers)… These are called Upsells and Downsells. Usually, the upsells are higher priced than the first product and downsells are offered when the customer declines the Upsells or in addition to their purchase of the Upsells.

If this sounds too complicated for you, don’t get overwhelmed.

Realize that developing a fully expanded funnel takes time, effort, commitment, and willingness to reach higher levels or leadership and income.

(As a side note: That’s the kind of funnel that also attracts great and profitable JV partnerships.)

This is all achievable and can make you a lot of money if you go for it. But making a huge leap sometimes like this could be a tough route for someone who’s just getting started and doesn’t have the experience.

However, a small leap makes a lot more sense and progress could be made much faster. Just like with anything in life. If you’re trying to lose wight by running, you wouldn’t start with 20 miles if you’ve never run 2 miles in your life. You’ll start in steps.

What I teach my students and clients is to begin with their free (for leads generation) and low end products (for monetization) first and go from there. And if you are my client, that’s what I would tell you to do too.

The biggest mistake that I see online marketing entrepreneurs make out there is that they are afraid to jump and join the leaders in this industry by embracing the courage and creating their own assets – their own products. It seems scary, there’s self esteem issues, there’s that limiting belief of “Oh I am not an expert” or “I don’t know enough yet”.

If any of this is going through your mind, just take it out of there and throw it in the garbage. Realize that this is achievable for you too.

In fact, you know that you’ve been wanting to step up for a long time, and now it’s time to step out of that fear and into courage. You too can have your name and face printed on your own product design, you too can share with the world all that knowledge that’s inside of you. And if you feel like there’s nothing you can teach, don’t worry. There’s a way we’ll help you dig it out and make it available for the many who are out there desperately needing your leadership and guidance.

So you might be wondering, where do I begin?

My friend Mark Hoverson is on a mission to change these limiting beliefs in the industry.

I have been making a change on a smaller scale helping my private clients and mastermind partners. However, Mark has partnered with another industry giant Magnetic Sponsoring and together they are making it incredibly affordable and achievable for everyone to be able to gain the knowledge while being taken through the process of creating their products – their own assets.

Mark’s got a whole blueprint that will walk you through the steps and make it easy and effortlessly for you to identify your strengths, current assets like knowledge and investments of time and money so that you know what to package as your first product.

Learn from Mark in his Irresistible Info Marketing Blueprint.

I hope this all makes sense to you, and if you truly want to succeed in your business you will drop everything you are doing right now, and focus your energy and time on creating your own first product.

Mike Klingler is challenging me

I have to admit I have been a bit distracted lately on following through with updating you 100% on how I’m creating my NEW profitable online presence at http://DiDiAlcheva.com. But I have Mike Klingler to blame for that.
I recently watched his first class on MFM (Marketing Funnel Mastery) and there he graciously pointed out one of MY underdeveloped marketing funnel sweet spots.
Mike has actually been pointing this to me I’ve got to admit for quite a while now, and a few days ago he did it publicly for all of you to see.

Well, while I was working full time at Marketing Merge, putting in tremendous amounts of hours into the growth of the company, I always had the excuse of not having enough time to fix it.

But now that I’m working full time on my own marketing I have no more excuses left and I’ve decided to take up on Mike’s challenge.

For those of you who didn’t watch Mike’s training, here is what the underdeveloped marketing funnel sweet spot is that he referred to:

Go ahead and Google the words “network marketing leads”. What you will see is one of my videos about Twitter and Leads Generation coming up 3rd or 4th on the page, right after the paid advertising. That’s very good, btw! :)

Click on the video and you’ll end up at YouTube and be able to watch my video that has close to 16k (that stands for thousand) views. Btw, that’s very good as well. :)

Here is the not so good part about this funnel which is now fixed to a degree:

Before Mike’s training I had posted 5 different links in the description area of the video. These were 5 different directions and paths I was asking people to take, which is a very weak call to action model.

During the pre-launch of Renegade Professional last year this was actually very appropriate for what I was trying to do then, because of the training provided in these links. But now it is distracting and confusing to someone who wants to continue learning and getting more information on the topic.

Although at least 3 of the links I had there were leading to other Twitter training I didn’t make it easy for the person wanting to take some action, to really feel confident that they are doing the right move. And that’s vital. You don’t want to confuse your prospects, you want to make them confident in you, in themselves and in the action steps you are recommending them to take.

After Mike’s comment I immediately removed all the links and added a more appropriate one that I decided to leave there temporary until I create a better and more optimized for monetization solution.

But at least for now it is straight forward and there is nothing to distract or confuse the viewer/prospect with what their next step should be and where they should go.

What I have decided to do is take on Mike’s challenge and create something more optimized with this marketing sweet spot. I would create either a product, a free report or something that is related to the video that is taking the viewer/prospect one step further into my funnel and getting to know me better as a leader.

I will be sharing that with you as I create it.

I wanted to mention it since it’s a bit of a side track of my posts and the theme you are following at DiDiAlcheva.com. But, I do believe that this will also be beneficial to you so I suggest you continue to follow me along the way.

What can YOU do right now?

Many of you already have a lot of things/marketing pieces in place that you have put up a long time ago, in the beginning of your online attraction marketing journey, when you started learning and as you continued progressing. Now you have reached a completely different level, with a lot more knowledge and skills, because of that practice and the time you have invested in your business growth.

So, one of the things you could do is review your current content out there, pieces you’ve created that are spread out all over the Internet and see if there is anything you could add or remove or edit to improve and get better results from the effort already put into it.

With the higher expertise you have now, see if you can do some simple things to optimize and strengthen some of your marketing underdeveloped sweet spots.

Just like I changed the link at my YouTube video. Even though not the best solution it is a much better route than what I had there before.

How do you recognize your underdeveloped sweet spots?

Well, that’s a long topic, but here is how you can begin: by simply going through and reviewing what you already have in place and asking yourself this simple question: Is this fully optimized, am I getting the results I know I could be getting with this, when it comes to generating leads and cash flow?

Don’t Be Mistaken: The New School Phone Is Different

Many of us have come out of old school of doing business with lots of in person to person interaction to the new school of building a business, that’s online and often with very little to no in person interaction.

We come from the chasing of friends and family, the three foot rule,  the business model that forced us to try and strike conversations in the store line, the model that got us to do a lot of cold calling and learning to connect with strangers on the phone.

And we have now moved online, consuming a lot of content, training, other people’s monologues and sometimes dialogues, the model that empowers us to develop strong and trusting relationships with our audience, tribe, prospects list, other business owners and entrepreneurs, like minded people from the same community but all of it in front of the computer where the in person one on one communication often gets neglected.

Knowing how much fear I’ve had of that phone I can see how extreme many attraction marketers who’ve come from the old school of business could be in never wanting to touch that phone again. :)

I would like to encourage you that you reflect on the daily business model that you are following right now. You might be engaging yourself in a lot of conversations and that’s great, but they are most likely mostly online in the social media space and in your email box.

Be open and do and experiment and see if picking up the phone and calling a fellow online entrepreneur, who you have conversations with online anyways would make any difference in any way in your business progress.

I’ve already done the experiment and I want to assure you that this kind of new school attraction marketing model of connecting and picking up of that, what used to be a 300 pound, heavy phone has nothing to do with the draining process of the old school ways of cold calling.

This kind of communication can literally change your business overnight. It’s a fun, invigorating, ideas creating and business progress making activity.

Watch my fun video on the topic below:

There you have it. Where is your phone? Think of the person you feel closest and have most things in common, from your fellow social media buddies and dial their number right now.

Let me know if you have been doing this at all and how has this phone connection, or in person connection at live events has done for your business?

Please leave your comments below and share that you care by re-tweeting this video and share with friends.
